Dead Rover Feeling Better

Spirit, the Mars rover, has been stuck in the sand for three months, exacerbated by a dead wheel motor. We have certainly got our money's worth out of the little lawn mower sized robot, but it would be nice to get to out of the crater and back to limping across the deserts of "Barsoom". Today on the Universe Today site we have new information. We learn that Spirit has move a couple of millimeters. YEA! The Spirit rover was only supposed to last about ninety days, but that was almost six years ago, and its twin, Opportunity, continues to roam unimpeded. Should Spirit get out of its crater it can continue on the remaining five driven wheels, dragging the frozen sixth. NASA has some kick-ass engineers.

Lawn Mowers on MARS ... now there's a great advance in technology. Let me know when they actually find some lawns to mow!

I DO (as a member of the Gemini Program generation) share the excitement with the folks that actually pull off these AMAZING feats... but sadly, they play (mostly) to a nation of TV Channel Hoppers with a bag of Pork Rinds on their lap in their recliners...

Short Attn Span Theatre at it's Zenith...

While I appreciate your appreciation of this remarkable achievement (kudos to NASA!) ... I wonder if there's anyone 'listening' anymore... that will carry the support for exploration into the future... given our collective 'can't see beyond the end of our nose's' knee-jerk, apoplectic, reactionary, media-manipulated, *#*^*^%^%$%*&##?!! freaking government of the people, & by the people.... sigh...

Maybe Sarah Palin is right... Vote for me!... I'll be the best puppet the rightist's have ever seen! Moose Chili in Every Pot!

So There Mr. Mustard!
